CORPORATE BRANDING
These too did not wait on the brief. The objective here was to ingratiate a retail corporate brand to its underserved market of township residents. The ads drew on specific and unique cultural references:
Patrick ‘Ace’ Ntsoelengoe was a legendary soccer player who played, locally, for the Kaizer Chiefs and, overseas, for the Minnesota Kicks. He passed in retirement and the ad was a clever way of memorialising his sad passing.
The trolley ad was developed to mark the opening of the Pick n Pay supermarket in Maponya Mall, Soweto. The ‘whitewall’ wheels on the trolley the ‘whitewall’ tyres beloved by taxi drivers in the township.
